Using the Necker Cube and shifting the perspective of a Necker Cube is correlated with increased gamma wave activity.

The benefit of gamma wave bursts is they are associated with synchronization of the brain. The net result in being able to culture this type of brain wave activity is increased "aha" moments, or "enlightening" experiences which arise from shifts in perception.

Another way to think about this is, Gamma Brain-waves are associated with "leaps of insight" that are often connected with more expansive ways of problem solving.

USING THE NECKER CUBE TO DEVELOP AND DIRECT YOUR ATTENTION

The Necker Cube can be used to train your capacity to direct mental effort. This wire-frame cube is named after the Swiss crystallographer Louis Necker (1880s) who observed that the cube shape repeatedly reversed its perceived orientation.

The Necker Cube can be seen in two different orientations. When viewed for a prolonged interval (more than a few seconds) the cube spontaneously reverses its orientation.

THE ROLE OF DIRECTED ATTENTION

The Necker Cube can be used to practice stabilizing your quality of your attention

You can use it to enhance the quality of your attention in social situations, meetings and anything that requires your full attention, as well as internal distractions.

WHY YOU SHOULD LEARN TO DIRECT YOUR ATTENTION ON PURPOSE

Research indicates that directed attention is a scarce and finite skill. When the mind is placed under continual demand, our ability to focus diminishes, resulting in a condition called directed attention fatigue (DAF). This condition reduces our overall mental effectiveness and makes decision making more difficult.
